Rockaway Township will hold a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The ceremony begins at 7:00 PM at the Park Lake Gazebo in Rockaway Township.
The evening will center on a candlelight vigil and a reading of names. Organizers plan to honor the memory of the Morris County residents who lost their lives in 2001 by reading each of their names aloud. The event is free, and all residents are welcome to join in commemoration and solemn remembrance.
The gathering marks a milestone year for the community. A quarter century has passed since the September 11, 2001, attacks, which claimed nearly 3,000 lives in New York, at the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. New Jersey lost hundreds of residents that day, and Morris County ceremonies like this one keep their memory alive for a new generation.
Residents are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early. The Park Lake Gazebo offers a quiet lakeside setting for the candlelight vigil, and families across Rockaway and the surrounding Morris County towns are invited to attend.
