Add as a preferred sourceThe Rockaway Township Free Public Library will host a free Medicare Annual Enrollment presentation on Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Main Library, 61 Mt. Hope Road in Rockaway Township. Registration is required.
The program is led by a volunteer counselor from SHIP, the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, who will offer free, unbiased information to help attendees understand their Medicare options.
Why the timing matters
The talk falls in the middle of Medicare Open Enrollment, which runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 each year. During that window, people with Medicare can join, switch or drop a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare drug plan, or move between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Changes made during Open Enrollment take effect on Jan. 1, 2027, as long as the plan receives the enrollment request by Dec. 7.
Medicare advises enrollees to review the Annual Notice of Change letter from their current plan, since costs, benefits and covered drugs can change from year to year. People who are happy with their current coverage do not need to do anything, and their coverage will continue automatically.
No sales pitches
The library notes that SHIP is unbiased and cannot have any insurance representation at the presentation. Brokers, agents and insurance products are not allowed anywhere on the premises, including outside the door or in the parking lot. If an insurance representative is found on site, the SHIP presenter has to leave without giving the talk.
