Rockaway Township will host a free Community Fishing Event at Mt. Hope Pond on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event is open to Rockaway Township residents of all ages and is run with staff and volunteers from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Fish and Wildlife division.
Free loaner rods and bait will be available at the pond, and residents can also bring their own equipment. There is no cost for township residents to attend.
Anglers ages 16 to 69 must obtain a 2026 New Jersey fishing license to take part. Children under 16 and residents 70 and older are not required to have one. Licenses can be purchased through the state’s online sales portal.
The event ties into Lakes Appreciation Month, which New Jersey marks each July to highlight the freshwater lakes and ponds across the state. Mt. Hope Pond is one of the township’s recreation spots in Rockaway, Morris County.
