Add as a preferred sourceRockaway Borough residents can weigh in on Nov. 12 on a plan to add a stop sign at the corner of Walnut Place and Chestnut Terrace, along with the borough’s 2026 salary ordinance.
The Mayor and Council introduced both ordinances on first reading at their Oct. 22 meeting. The public hearing and final vote are set for Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Borough of Rockaway Community Center, 21-25 Union Street. Anyone interested will have a chance to be heard.
Stop sign on Walnut Place
Ordinance 26-23 amends the borough’s vehicles and traffic code. It removes Chestnut Terrace and Walnut Place from the borough’s list of stop-yield intersections and adds a stop sign on the westerly approach of Walnut Place at Chestnut Terrace.
2026 salary ranges
Ordinance 26-22 sets pay ranges for Rockaway Borough and Water Utility positions. Some examples from the ordinance:
- Borough Administrator: $40,000 to $131,500 a year
- Police Chief: $112,408 to $227,000 a year
- Mayor: $4,500 to $8,600 a year
- Council members: $4,250 to $7,300 a year
- School crossing guards: $15.92 to $27.35 an hour
The ordinance takes effect retroactive to Jan. 1, 2026, and employees must be actively employed when it is adopted to receive retroactive pay. Employees hired between July 1, 2025 and Nov. 30, 2025 get increases effective July 1, 2026, while those hired on or after Dec. 1, 2025 are not eligible for a 2026 increase.
Copies of both ordinances are available at the Borough Clerk’s office during regular business hours or by emailing anevins@rockawayborough.org.
This hearing is for Rockaway Borough only. Rockaway Township is a separate municipality with its own council.
