Add as a preferred sourceRockaway Borough will hold a tax sale on Friday, Nov. 20, 2026, according to a public notice posted on the Borough website by Borough Clerk Amanda L. Nevins.
The Tax Sale Listing attached to the notice, dated Oct. 20, 2026, includes six properties, all for unpaid property taxes. The combined amount due is $42,168.51, made up of $34,504.70 in principal, $6,876.14 in interest and $787.67 in costs. Individual amounts on the list range from $92.76 to $16,546.01.
This applies to Rockaway Borough only. Rockaway Borough and Rockaway Township are separate municipalities with separate tax offices.
What a tax sale means
In New Jersey, a municipal tax sale sells a lien on a property for unpaid municipal charges. It does not sell the property itself. Owners can still pay what they owe before the sale to have their property removed from the list.
How to pay before the sale
According to the Borough’s tax office page, payments for properties subject to tax sale must be made with certified funds only: cash, certified check or money order.
The Tax Office is at Town Hall, 1 East Main Street, and is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Questions can go to Tax Collector Karen Ferrone at 973-627-2000, extension 228, or taxcollector@rockawayborough.org.
The notice posted so far does not say how or where this year’s sale will be conducted. Owners and prospective bidders should contact the Tax Collector for details.
Fourth quarter taxes also due
Separately, Rockaway Borough property taxes are payable quarterly on Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1, with a ten day grace period, according to the Borough. Postmarks are not accepted.
