Rockaway Borough will mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a community remembrance vigil on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Rockaway Borough Library, 82 East Main Street.
The Rockaway Borough Mayor and Council are inviting residents to gather and honor the victims and first responders lost on September 11, 2001. The Borough describes the evening simply: no speeches, just a community coming together to remember.
The vigil falls on a milestone year, a quarter century since the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, including hundreds from New Jersey. For Rockaway families who lost loved ones or watched neighbors answer the call that day, the gathering offers a quiet, local place to reflect.
The Rockaway Borough Library sits in the heart of downtown at 82 East Main Street, a familiar and walkable spot for residents across the Borough. Attendees are welcome to stop by any time during the three-hour window.
The Borough vigil is one of several remembrances planned across the Rockaway area and Morris County this year. Neighboring Rockaway Township will hold its own 9/11 ceremony the same day, and Morris County is hosting a 25th anniversary remembrance later that weekend.
