Summer is winding down, and Rockaway Township families can start counting down to the first bell. Rockaway Township Public Schools has set Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as the first day of classes for students across the district.
The 2026-2027 calendar brings staff back first. New teacher orientation runs August 31 and September 1, followed by district-wide staff in-service days on September 2 and 3. Schools and offices will be closed Monday, September 7, for the Labor Day holiday, with students returning the next morning.
A few early dates are worth marking down. Schools will be closed Monday, September 21, for Yom Kippur. The calendar sets aside 180 instructional days and builds in four emergency days for weather closures, with the last day of school scheduled for Tuesday, June 22, 2027, if no emergency days are used.
The Rockaway Township district is separate from the Rockaway Borough school district. Families are encouraged to review the full Rockaway Township Public Schools calendar for early dismissals, holidays, and conference days throughout the year.
For many households in Rockaway, the return to school also marks the close of a busy Morris County summer. Parents can use the next few weeks to handle registration, supply shopping, and bus routes before classes begin on September 8.
