Rockaway Township is one of five Morris County municipalities awarded a $1,500 recycling grant from the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority, the county announced on August 3, 2026.
The MCMUA hands out the grants each year through its Waste Reduction and Recycling Mini Grant program, which funds local projects that cut waste, boost recycling and educate residents. Rockaway Township will use its award to install CCTV cameras on its curbside recycling trucks. The cameras let the township monitor for recycling contamination and give residents clearer guidance on what belongs in the recycling bin.
“Supporting these local projects is a great way to help our municipalities find practical ways to reduce waste and improve recycling,” said Morris County Commissioner Tayfun Selen, the board’s liaison to the MCMUA.
Anthony Marrone, District Recycling Coordinator for the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority, said the grants reward local leadership and fresh ideas. “These grants represent an investment in local leadership and innovative ideas that help reduce waste, conserve resources, and build cleaner, more sustainable communities,” Marrone said.
The other 2026 recipients were Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, Morris Township and Morristown. Each community received $1,500 to support its own recycling and waste prevention project.
For Rockaway Township residents, the cameras are meant to catch recycling contamination early and reinforce proper recycling habits at the curb. The MCMUA runs recycling and waste programs across Morris County under the county’s Solid Waste Management Plan.
