Rockaway Township property owners have a tax deadline approaching. Third quarter property taxes are due Saturday, August 1, 2026, according to the Rockaway Township Tax Collector’s Office.
Property taxes in the Morris County township are billed once a year in July and paid in four quarterly installments due February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. Each annual bill includes four coupons that list the amount owed and the due date for every quarter.
Residents should read the August coupon closely. Most quarters carry a standard 10 calendar day grace period, but the third quarter works differently. The township states that the August payment is due 25 days from the date the tax bills are mailed, so the exact last day to pay without interest is printed on the bill and posted on the township website. Payments must arrive by that date because postmarks are not accepted, and under state law taxes are owed whether or not a bill is received.
The Tax Collector’s Office offers several ways to pay. Homeowners can pay online using the account number and last name shown on the bill, with electronic checks processed free of charge and credit or debit cards carrying a 3 percent convenience fee. In person payments by cash or check are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 65 Mt. Hope Road, and a drop box outside the front doors handles after hours payments.
Unpaid balances accrue interest at 8 percent on the first $1,500 and 18 percent on the remainder. Residents with questions can reach the Tax Collection Department at 973-983-2822 or [email protected].
