Rockaway drivers who travel southwest through Morris County should plan for a detour starting next week. Frank Street in Mine Hill Township will close to through traffic beginning Monday, July 27, 2026, following the morning rush hour, so the county can replace the Frank Street Bridge over Shaw’s Creek.
The closure will send motorists onto a signed detour of about one half mile using Dickerson Mine Road, Martin Place, Roxbury Drive and Ward Place. Morris County expects the replacement to take approximately three months to complete, weather permitting.
The existing structure is a two span reinforced concrete oval pipe bridge built around 1970. County inspections identified exposed reinforcing steel, movement in one of the reinforced concrete pipe sections and cracking in a headwall, and engineers determined that a full replacement was the most practical long term solution.
The new bridge will be a single cell precast concrete box culvert measuring 8 feet wide and 5 feet, 3 inches deep. The project also includes new precast wing walls and guide rail mounted railings.
The $613,704.12 project is being completed by Konkus Corporation of Branchburg, New Jersey, under contract with the County of Morris.
Mine Hill Township sits southwest of Rockaway in Morris County, so residents heading toward that part of the county should allow extra time while the detour is in place.
