The Rockaway Borough Mayor and Council will plant a cherry tree on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. on Lakeside Drive in Rockaway, Morris County, to mark America’s 250th anniversary. The public is invited to take part.
The planting is part of REV250, the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American independence. The borough is using the occasion to add a lasting piece of greenery to town, which organizers describe as a symbol of freedom, unity, and hope for generations to come.
The ceremony is free and open to everyone, and a free food truck will be on location for attendees. Organizers are framing the morning around a simple message, celebrate the past and plant for the future, and they are inviting residents to help put the tree in the ground.
