The Rockaway Township Police Department will host a National Night Out Celebration and Movie Night on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Peterson Field on Fleetwood Drive in Rockaway.

The free community event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., with an outdoor movie shown at dusk. This year’s celebration features the film “GOAT,” along with free food and family activities. If rain forces a postponement, the event will move to Wednesday, August 6, 2026.

National Night Out is a nationwide tradition held each year on the first Tuesday of August. It is designed to strengthen the bond between police officers and the residents they serve, giving neighbors a relaxed setting to meet the officers who patrol their community. Rockaway Township’s event carries the theme “Celebrating Our Community, Honoring Our Heroes.”

Families can expect an evening of food, games, and face-to-face time with local law enforcement, capped by the movie at dusk. Peterson Field, one of Rockaway Township’s main athletic complexes, offers open space for the festivities and the screening, so residents are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets.

The celebration is one of several National Night Out gatherings taking place across Rockaway and Morris County on August 4, part of a national effort that brings neighbors and law enforcement officers together every summer.

Residents with questions can contact the Rockaway Township Police Department for more information.
