Summer break is almost over for families in Rockaway Borough. The Rockaway Borough School District has set Tuesday, September 8, 2026, as the first day of school for students, opening the 2026-2027 academic year in the Morris County district.
Students at Lincoln Elementary School and Thomas Jefferson Middle School will head back to class that Tuesday. The date follows the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, when schools are closed, and two staff in-service days on Wednesday, September 2, and Thursday, September 3.
The district calendar sets 185 student days for the year, with a tentative last day of school on Friday, June 25, 2027. It builds in five snow days. If more closures are needed, the Board of Education may extend the year in June or trim spring break, starting with April 2 and working backward.
Families should note a few days off soon after the opening. Schools will be closed Monday, September 21, 2026, for Yom Kippur. The NJEA Convention and parent-teacher conferences fall in November, followed by the Thanksgiving recess on November 26 and 27.
