Add as a preferred sourceRockaway Borough residents have until Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, to sign up for the Borough’s Halloween Decoration Contest, which returns this fall with prizes from local businesses.
The contest is presented by the Rockaway Borough Mayor and Council and is open to all Borough residents, including those who live in apartments. Registration is free. Entry forms can be dropped off in person at Borough Hall, 1 East Main Street, or emailed to the borough clerk at boroughclerk@rockawayborough.org.
The Mayor and Council will judge entries between Friday, Oct. 16, and Tuesday, Oct. 20. Winners will be announced at the Thursday, Oct. 22, Mayor and Council meeting and on social media.
Prizes will be awarded for Best Overall Decorations, Best Yard Display, and Spookiest Decorations. The Best Overall winner earns bragging rights and a special prize. Prize sponsors are Anthony’s Pizza & Family Restaurant, Riverside Shoppe, Georgia’s Stained Glass Werks, The Exchange, and Pizza 46.
The contest first started in 2013 but lost momentum in recent years. Councilmembers Robert DeVito and Thomas Slockbower and Mayor Thomas Mulligan worked to bring it back this year.
“When you drive around Rockaway Borough, there’s a lot of holiday decorating… we just wanted to give that opportunity again and get local businesses involved in the community,” DeVito told The Citizen of Morris County.
The entry form asks for a name, address, and phone number, with email optional. By signing it, residents agree that a winning property can be shown on the Borough’s website and social media pages.
The contest is open only to Rockaway Borough residents. Rockaway Township is a separate municipality and is not part of this contest.
