Add as a preferred sourceROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened a 90-day appeal period on revised flood maps that cover Rockaway Township in Morris County.
FEMA sent a Sept. 11, 2026, appeal-start letter to Mayor Joseph Jackson after providing preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map and Flood Insurance Study materials for Morris County. Public notices were scheduled in the Daily Record and The Star-Ledger on or about Sept. 18 and Sept. 25, 2026. The 90-day appeal window begins after the second newspaper notice.
The revised maps may change Special Flood Hazard Areas, base flood elevations, and zone designations for some Township locations. Once finalized, the determinations become the basis for floodplain rules Rockaway Township must keep to remain in the National Flood Insurance Program.
Property owners and lessees who believe proposed flood hazard information is scientifically or technically incorrect can appeal. FEMA asks residents to submit supporting data through the Township so the community can consolidate appeals. Digital submittals may go to FEMA-R2-RAB-Appeals@fema.dhs.gov, attention Michael Foley, Risk Analysis Branch Chief, FEMA Region 2 Mitigation Division.
