Rockaway Borough is encouraging residents to enroll in its RAVE emergency notification system so they can receive real-time alerts during storms and other emergencies.
The reminder comes as Rockaway and the rest of Morris County continue to recover from the severe storms that swept through New Jersey this month and left thousands of residents without power. Borough officials say signing up before the next round of severe weather is the best way to stay informed about outages, road closures, water advisories, and other urgent situations.
The service is free and managed through the Rockaway Borough Office of Emergency Management. Residents can enroll through Smart911 at Smart911.com or by scanning the QR code posted on the borough website. Once registered, residents can choose to receive Rockaway Borough alerts by phone call, text message, or email.
Smart911 also lets residents build a safety profile with details such as their home address, medical needs, and emergency contacts. That information is shared automatically with dispatchers when someone in the household calls 911, helping first responders act faster.
Officials recommend that every household register at least one mobile phone and keep its contact information current. Rockaway Borough Hall, at 1 East Main Street, can be reached at 973-627-2000 for residents who need help signing up.
