Major General John T. Reim, the commanding general of Picatinny Arsenal, retired in a ceremony at the installation on Thursday, May 29, 2026. Picatinny Arsenal sits partly in Rockaway Township, making Reim a leader close to home for many local residents.
Reim had led Picatinny Arsenal since June 2022, serving as both commanding general and Joint Program Executive Officer for Armaments and Ammunition. A New Jersey native, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1990 and held leadership and staff positions across the Army throughout his career.

Rockaway Township Mayor Joe Jackson attended the ceremony to honor Reim’s service. In a message from his office, Jackson thanked the general for his decades in uniform and wished him well in retirement alongside his wife, Patty.
Picatinny Arsenal is a major Army research and manufacturing center in Morris County, NJ, where the military develops weapons, munitions, and other technologies. It is one of the area’s largest employers and a longtime fixture near the Rockaway Township community.
Reim and his family, known as “Team Reim,” now begin the next chapter after his Army career.
