Morris County will hold its seventh annual Overdose Awareness Day ceremony on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10 a.m. outside the Human Services Complex at One Medical Drive in Morris Plains.

Rockaway residents and families across Morris County are invited to attend. Families who have lost loved ones to overdose or fentanyl poisoning may arrive at 9:30 a.m. to view memorial name banners before the ceremony begins.

The program will include guest speakers, service providers and nonprofit partners. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs.

The county says the annual ceremony honors people lost to overdoses, recognizes the impact on families and communities, and highlights prevention, treatment and recovery resources.

Morris County’s Division of Community and Behavioral Health Services is organizing the event with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, its Hope One mobile services unit, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and community partners.

Overdose Awareness Day is observed each year on August 31 to raise awareness and reduce stigma connected to the opioid crisis and fentanyl-related overdoses. The event is open to residents seeking support, resources or a place to remember someone they lost.
