Rockaway Borough has delayed mailing its 2026 Final and 2027 Preliminary property tax bills while it waits on the certified tax rate from the Morris County Board of Taxation, the borough announced on July 24, 2026.
Borough officials said the bills will be mailed as soon as that rate is received and are asking taxpayers to check back for updates. The delay affects the August 1, 2026 third quarter payment that Rockaway property owners in Morris County would normally have due at the start of the month.
Because of the holdup, the borough is extending the grace period for the third quarter payment. Under New Jersey law, taxpayers must be given at least a 25 day grace period after tax bills are mailed before any interest can be charged. Rockaway Borough said the grace period for the August 1 payment will be extended accordingly, with the exact date printed on each bill. No interest will be charged during the grace period.
A delay like this is common when a municipality is waiting on the county to certify its annual tax rate, a step that must be completed before final bills can be calculated and printed. Until the new bills arrive, Rockaway residents do not need to take action, and no one will be penalized because of the delay.
Property owners with questions can contact Rockaway Borough Hall at 1 East Main Street or call 973-627-2000. The borough said it will post the mailing date and updated grace period details on its website once the county rate is certified.
